KBS2’s upcoming drama“The First Night With the Duke”;;has offered a glimpse into its stunning lineup of hanbok (traditional Korean clothing)!
“The First Night with the Duke”;; is a fantasy romance drama about ordinary college student Cha Sun Chaek (Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun), whose soul is transported into a minor character of a romance novel. After waking up in the world of the novel, she winds up spending the night with the obsessive male lead Yi Beon (2PM’s Taecyeon).
The newly released stills showcase a variety of hanbok styles worn by Cha Seon Chaek and Yi Beon. In the story, Cha Seon Chaek starts off as a background character from a wealthy family, but after being possessed by a modern-day student, she gradually rises to the center of the plot. Her hanbok looks reflect this transformation, blending elegance with a cheerful charm. Her hanbok styling—rich in detail—subtly hints at wealth and poise beyond what one might expect from a minor character.
Her hanbok’s vibrant color palette—featuring soft pinks, bright yellows, and sky blues—creates a bright and endearing visual that complements Cha Seon Chaek’s expressive features and highlights her vibrant personality.
On the other hand, Yi Beon embodies the archetype of a stoic historical warrior. His clean-cut hanbok styling radiates strength and restraint, underscoring his cold, disciplined nature. The use of muted tones—like the combination of a gray overcoat and teal hanbok—enhances his aloof presence, suggesting a man who guards his emotions closely. These subdued colors also serve to accentuate his subtle glances at Cha Seon Chaek, adding a layer of intrigue to their budding relationship.
