Security operatives in Benue State have moved swiftly to contain a brewing crisis after suspected youths reportedly killed cattle in the Aliade axis, raising fears of a retaliatory attack.

According to security sources, authorities received intelligence on April 3 indicating that a group of youths allegedly attacked herders, slaughtered their cattle, and distributed the meat among themselves.

The incident reportedly heightened tensions in the area, with affected herders said to be considering revenge, sparking concerns of possible violence.

Police sources revealed that a joint patrol team, working alongside Operation Anyam Nyor, was promptly deployed to the community to de-escalate the situation and ensure calm.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to track down those involved in the act, with security personnel launching a manhunt and working to recover evidence connected to the incident.

The case has now been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for detailed inquiry.

Authorities have reassured residents that proactive measures are being sustained to prevent any breakdown of law and order while maintaining peace across the area.
