If you're looking to save some money in 2026, look no further than your mobile device—I've discovered numerous hidden tricks that helped me save hundreds last year.

As someone who is well-versed in various apps filled with freebies and a number of subscription changes that can enhance savings, I'm eager to share my insights.

Some of these methods you may already be familiar with, while others require a bit of savvy. Here's exactly where to look and how to get started...

#1 Extra Cashback

My approximate saving in 2025: £47

We're all quite accustomed to using apps now, but you might not realize that there are ways to potentially earn cashback twice.

I've been a fan of an app called Airtime Rewards for years—it automatically provides cashback when you use specific bank cards.

There's no need to click on special website links; just shop as you normally would, and eligible purchases will be tracked.

Big names like Boots, Ikea, New Look, Morrisons, The Range, and many others are part of this scheme.

The cashback percentage varies from retailer to retailer, typically reaching up to 10 percent.

Once you accumulate £10 or more, you can use Airtime Rewards to pay toward your mobile phone bill.

You will need to access the app to redeem it, but the process is quite simple once Airtime Rewards has your phone number.

Since I started using Airtime Rewards in 2023, I've earned nearly £70.

Also, keep an eye out for bonus promotions within the app that can provide additional cashback if you meet certain spending thresholds.

Another source of bonus cashback is through your bank.

My bank offers Everyday Offers, which I check before making any purchases.

While it's a bit annoying that you have to activate them beforehand, it can lead to significant savings.

For instance, I can currently receive 7 percent back at Iceland and 15 percent back from other retailers.

Throughout my time with Lloyds Bank, I've accumulated over £317 through their Everyday Offers cashback.

#2 Free and Reduced Food

There are plenty of opportunities to find free food if you know where to look.

Many of your existing subscriptions offer free food regularly.

For example, my Sky subscription provides a free Sainsbury's food item every week, including premium pizzas, cookies, and more.

Additionally, my mobile provider Vodafone occasionally offers £3 vouchers for Sainsbury's.

You can also find ways to purchase short-dated food at greatly reduced prices.

Last year, I used an app that allowed me to get £19 worth of vegetables and meat for only £2.

All you need to do is secure a bag through the Olio app, show up at your local Iceland store before closing, and pay the £2.
