Without touching the Fire Stick remote, users will be able to scroll through movies, manage watch lists, and play shows on their TV using their phone.

customers will not be able to stream Fire TV content on their phone, with the app only used as a smart remote.

The company said it will be rolling out the upgrade today, February 26, and it will be made available for UK customers over the coming weeks.

Amazon said online: “Millions of customers use our Fire TV mobile app as a backup remote, but we knew it could do more. The redesigned adds the ability to browse content, manage your watchlist, and play titles on your TV—all with a look and feel that matches the new Fire TV design.

“Now you can use your phone as a second screen to discover what to watch or add a friend’s show recommendation to your watchlist when you’re away from home.

“The Fire TV mobile app is available to download for free and will be available to all customers over the coming weeks.”

Fire TV was released by Amazon in 2014 as a streaming platform with a range of apps such as Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video.

The Fire TV Stick was produced as a small streaming device that can turn any TV with an HDMI port into a smart TV.

Over 300million Fire TV devices have been purchased across the world, making it one of the biggest streaming services.
