Former Kano State Governor and leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that anyone claiming to be the emir of Kano, other than Muhammadu Sanusi II, is an imposter and not recognized by either the people or the government.
Kwankwaso made this remark during the 4th convocation ceremony at Skyline University.

He asserted that any attempt to appoint a different emir, whether from Abuja or elsewhere, lacks legitimacy.

He recalled that Kano has encountered similar situations in the past.

According to him, “This is not the first time Kano has experienced a dispute over the emirate. When I was a student at the technical school in Kofar Nassarawa, people used to greet and honor the so-called second emir as he entered the city through Kofar Nassarawa to the school. Although he was not the legitimate emir, people treated him as if he were.”

Kwankwaso also praised Skyline University for naming Emir Sanusi II as its chancellor.

He mentioned that the emir has demonstrated a strong commitment to education.

He added, “Education is the top priority for the Kwankwassiya movement and the NNPP, and Emir Sanusi has shown remarkable dedication.”

The ongoing emirship dispute involves Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero. In 2019, former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje established four new emirates, which diminished Sanusi’s authority.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf later revoked this law and reinstated Sanusi to the throne, but legal battles continue, and a final ruling has yet to be reached.
