INCREDIBLE plans have been floated for a major US city to build a 450ft high statue that would rival the Statue of Liberty.

Plans are underway to create a colossal statue of the Greek Titan Prometheus on Alcatraz Island, aiming to transform the skyline of San Francisco.

And behind the incredible plan is entrepreneur Ross Calvin, the founder of the American Colossus Foundation and chief executive of the bitcoin-mining company Parhelion.

According to his foundation’s website, the proposed monument would be taller than the 305ft-high Statue of Liberty in New York Harbour and serve as a “beacon of optimism”.

The massive bust would be made of a nickel-bronze alloy – and cost a whopping $450m.

Accompanying the statue would be a “technology museum”.

“The statue will be built to lift up men’s spirits in triumph and heroism—that creative ingenuity is heroic and selfhood is sacrosanct,” the organisation said.

Mr Calvin said he aims to present digital renderings of the statue as well as a formal proposal to President Donald Trump early next year.

According the The Art Newspaper, Calvin got inspiration for the statue during a 2018 visit to San Francisco.

He said he watched the sunset over the Bay and felt that the skyline was missing a landmark – just like the Statue of Liberty.

The entrepreneur told The Stark Truth podcast: “I was sailing past Alcatraz in the Bay and I looked at it and I saw, well gosh, what a crazy thing to have this kind of bummed out, insignificant thing on this island.

“And it’s a perfect place for a symbol of triumph and beauty.”

In an interview with Bloomberg , Mr Calvin revealed why he wants the statue to be of the Greek mythological figure.

He said: “Prometheus is kind of the patron saint of what it means to be American.

“The West is the thing where original things happen, and that’s a very rare mineral in human history, and we have to preserve the social structures that make it possible.”

However, according to the foundation’s page on Geyser, only one contributor has pledged a total of $5.

Meanewhile, major thorns stand in the way of the incredible plans.

Alcatraz is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is protected as a national park.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the island would need to be reclassified as a national monument to build there.

And it is a process that would require federal approval and extensive environmental review.

It all comes as Trump publicly said he as a high-security federal prison for violent offenders.

“America’s most ruthless and violent offenders” will be housed in the long-shuttered prison just off San Francisco, California, the president said.
