According to The Athletic , this came during a training session in the period when United faced and United.
Martinez considered himself ready to start and was not happy the manager was ignoring him. He made his point in what was described as an “intense” manner, but Amorim did not back down.
After that, Martinez made substitute appearances against Palace and West Ham, but was not named in the starting XI until the Boxing Day game against – which United won.
But, he did wear the captain’s armband for Amorim’s final two games, indicating the manager didn’t mind a little intensity from his players.
Amorim had been under pressure as Man United boss underneath a cloack of patience with much of their dire results last season attributed to the Portuguese needing a full season in charge and his own players.
Still, he departs the club with a win percentage of just 31.9 percent, the worst a United manager has ever had in the Premier League era.
After his incredible rant after the 1-1 draw with , it became clear that Amorim did not just want coach a side the club’s higher-ups constructed.
Once his relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox and many others went past the point of return.
Ironically, Amorim and Martinez has been on the same page with one element of recruitment over the summer.
The ex-Sporting Lisbon boss had wanted to be his new goalkeeper, with the stopper clearly available.
The Argentina number one had support from some in United’s team, specifically compatriot Lisandro Martinez.
The Athletic say the defender went as far as lobbying for his signing to Ratcliffe, as they were already in contact over his rehabilitation from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Ultimately, Wilcox and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell decided that represented better value in fee and wages with his best years ahead of him – much to Amorim’s chagrin.
Makes sense that Amorin brought up “the sporting director” and “the scouting department” during his final tirade, saying that everybody needed to do their jobs.
