The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, has convened a crucial stakeholders’ meeting at its headquarters in Port Harcourt, in preparation for the forthcoming 2025 Local Government Elections in the state.

According to a statement signed by the RSIEC Chairman and Chief Electoral Commissioner, Dr Michael Ekpali Odey, the meeting will feature the official unveiling of the revised timetable and guidelines for the elections.
Participants are already seated as they await the start of the meeting.

Odey, in the statement, extended invitations to a wide range of stakeholders, including leaders of all registered political parties, traditional rulers, security agencies, religious bodies, the media, professional associations, civil society groups, non-governmental organisations, community-based organisations, and members of the electorate.

DAILY POST recalls that the local government elections were initially scheduled to be held on August 9, 2025, under the leadership of the former RSIEC Chairman, Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, before he and other members of the commission board were dissolved.

Their dissolution was directed by the Sole Administrator of the state, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.

As part of the emergency measures, President Tinubu also suspended the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
