Roy Hattersley, the former deputy leader of the Labour Party, has died aged 93.

The former politician, who was also an author and journalist, was MP for Sparkbrook for over 32 years.

Hattersley was made a life peer as Baron Hattersley of Sparkbrook after he left the Commons in 1997.

Over the course of his career, he penned more than 20 on a variety of subjects and also worked as a columnist and broadcaster.

He was born in in 1932 and became MP for Birmingham Sparkbrook in 1964, marking the beginning of a long political career.
