Rory McIlroy’s wife Erica ‘hit by drink’ thrown by fan at toxic Ryder Cup that saw Europe in X-rated bust-ups with crowd

RORY McILROY and wife Erica Stoll put on a united front after she appeared to have a drink thrown at her by a fan at the Ryder Cup.

The Northern Irishman was bombarded with sick jibes about his personal life, including taunts over wife Erica and ex-fiancee Caroline Wozniacki, during Saturday’s explosive day two at Bethpage.

In one clip, filmed near the 17th green, a fan is heard shouting, “Somebody threw a drink at her!”, though it’s unclear from the video whether Erica was actually hit.

McIlroy can be seen brushing something from her cap and asking, “Are you OK?” as security rushed to surround the couple.

The two embraced after Rory and partner Shane Lowry edged out Justin Thomas and Cameron Young in a tense fourball win, putting Europe within touching distance of Ryder Cup glory in New York.

He said: “When you play an away Ryder Cup, it’s really, really challenging.

“People can be their own judge of whether they took it too far.”

The fireworks didn’t end there.

McIlroy snapped at the gallery on the 6th after being jeered mid-putt.

Later, he roared “Let’s f**ing go!” and pumped his fists at the grandstand after nailing a 9-foot birdie on the 14th that gave him and Lowry a lead they never lost.

, appearing to confront one heckler on the back nine with another F-word blast as tensions boiled over.

Lowry said: “It was intense — something I’ve never experienced. But this is what I live for.”

Lowry’s wife Wendy joined Erica and Diane Donald, wife of captain Luke, in following the group around a cauldron-like Bethpage – with all three seen visibly shaken during moments of abuse from the stands.

Saturday’s chaos came less than a year after McIlroy filed for divorce from Erica — before performing a dramatic U-turn and calling it off.

The pair, who wed in 2017 and share five-year-old daughter Poppy Kennedy, looked stronger than ever as they walked arm in arm off the 18th green.

McIlroy admitted earlier this year the near-split was a “wake-up call”.

Rory said at the time: “Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized our best was as a family together.

“Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
