RONNIE O’SULLIVAN is a strong contender to secure a record-breaking Crucible title next spring, thanks to his new cue, as stated by his close friend Jimmy White.
He returns to the baize at 6 AM UK time on Sunday morning to face Allan Taylor in the first round of the International Championship in Nanjing, China.

Earlier this year, he reached the semi-finals of the World Championship despite experiencing issues with his cue, ultimately losing 17-7 to eventual champion Zhao Xintong with a session to spare.
Since then, he has acquired a superb new cue that he has fully embraced, believing it has made a significant impact on his game.
The evidence was clear in Jeddah in August when he achieved TWO 147 breaks in a single match—an accomplishment that had only occurred once before in professional snooker.
As he approaches his 50th birthday on December 5, some might argue that he is too old to endure the demands of 17 days in Sheffield.
He may have missed the opportunity to surpass the joint record of seven world titles he has shared since 2022.
However, White, 63, is confident that the sport's leading figure still has at least one more title run in him, citing O'Sullivan's impressive fitness and condition.
The Whirlwind remarked: “In the World Championship, I realized that as soon as Ronnie faced a strong opponent, he would struggle because of his cue issues.”
“He spent the summer getting accustomed to his new cue and notched two 147 breaks in Saudi Arabia, narrowly losing to someone who is arguably playing the best snooker in the world right now.”
“He’ll be around for a long time.”
When asked if O’Sullivan should be regarded as a major contender for the Crucible with his new equipment, White responded enthusiastically: “Absolutely!”
“What people often overlook about O’Sullivan is that he is the fittest player on the tour, so he will be a tough competitor.”
“Players like him and Mark Williams continue to win tournaments because of their extraordinary talent.”
Ding Junhui is the defending champion this week and will face Bradford’s David ‘Amazing’ Grace on Sunday.
White was speaking to SunSport during the launch of Pluto TV Snooker 900. To watch the channel, download the app on your iPhone or Android device or visit the website.
