Twenty-four hours after a well-known clergy in Ondo State, Samson Oluwamodede, criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa regarding the poor condition of the hazardous Oke-Aro/Idanre road in Akure, the state capital, the road has received a temporary improvement until its full completion.
While some residents welcomed this development, they criticized the governor for only taking action after the Prophet highlighted the issue.
Oluwamodede, who is the General Overseer of the Prayer Centre of God Worldwide, had vowed in a viral video that he would take steps to repair the road if Aiyedatiwa did not respond, especially considering that lives are lost in the area daily.
The prophet also pointed out that several roads in the state, particularly within the Akure area, are in poor condition.
According to civil servant Bosun Adubiaro, who resides in the Adofure area, Aiyedatiwa should be more attentive to the needs and concerns of the people he governs.
“The inaction of the Aiyedatiwa administration is becoming increasingly concerning. We have been voicing our concerns about this particular road, but our pleas have gone unheard.
“What I believe is happening is that he may not be listening to those around him, or his aides are not conveying the truth. Yes, the road has been awarded for construction, but must we wait until it is finished? The suffering people endure is unimaginable.
“As the man of God mentioned, people die daily due to its poor condition. It took Prophet Samson Oluwamodede's intervention for any action to be taken.
“I think the aides of Aiyedatiwa, who initially criticized and insulted the man of God, should feel ashamed. While they were busy disparaging him, their principal instructed that the road should be temporarily repaired.”
Another resident, Tolani Olarewaju, a trader at Afunbiowo Estate, criticized the Senior Special Assistant to Aiyedatiwa on Strategic Communication, Allen Sowore, for his stance on those who pleaded with the governor regarding the road, stating that such an attitude reflects sycophancy.
She remarked, “Those surrounding Aiyedatiwa seem to have an irritating belief that no one should complain about anything, especially concerning the governor.
“Even Allen Sowore, the younger brother of Omoyele Sowore, known for his criticism of the government, wants us to remain silent, which is unacceptable.
Sowore, in a response deemed disheartening, addressed the wave of criticism regarding the state of the road, emphasizing that Rome wasn't built in a day.
What prompted the temporary repair of the Oke-Aro/Idanre road?
The temporary repair was prompted by the public outcry led by Prophet Samson Oluwamodede, who criticized the governor for inaction regarding the road's dangerous condition, which has resulted in daily fatalities.
How do residents feel about the government's response?
Residents have expressed disappointment that action was only taken after the Prophet's intervention, criticizing the governor for not being proactive in addressing public safety concerns.
