A political affairs analyst, Ibrahim Modibo, stated that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, is exaggerating his role in the politics of Rivers State.

Modibo made these comments on Friday during an interview on Arise Television.

He emphasized that there is no need for Wike to exert excessive influence over Governor Siminalayi Fubara and advised him to take a more measured approach.

“In my view, the ongoing challenges facing Rivers State primarily stem from a power struggle between two individuals. These are the key issues.

“From my research and understanding of the political landscape that has affected Rivers both historically and currently, I can discern the influence of the former governor, who appears to be in a dominant position.

“He is someone I recognize as a politician who has actively engaged in democracy and has managed to accumulate substantial power and influence within Nigerian politics. To me, Wike embodies this dynamic.

“For reasons that are quite evident, I have not frequently heard of places where Wike visits and receives enthusiastic support. Instead, sadness often follows him, particularly within the political context of this nation.

“Moreover, when it comes to genuine democratic actions, I perceive that he is overstepping. There seems to be a theatrical aspect to his approach, as if he is dancing to a beat that doesn’t match the music.

“I believe he should adopt a more grounded stance as a leader. There is no need for coercion or for him to impose undue influence on the state governor.

“While he may be regarded as a godfather, hasn’t he also been supported by others? Did Wike not, during his tenure as governor, face challenges from others that helped shape his journey from local government chairman to governor?

“So why not permit Governor Fubara to take the lead? Allow this man to fulfill his role and bring democracy to the people of Rivers State,” Modibo concluded.
