The final eight of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations featured an exciting lineup.

This edition has not seen any significant upsets, ensuring that the best teams advanced.

The quarter-finalists comprised eight of the top ten teams on the continent, as ranked by FIFA, the world football governing body.

“The quality of infrastructure (playing surface) that Morocco has provided for the competition is a major differentiator when compared to the facilities available in Europe,” said Telema Davies, the Managing Partner and Sports Industry Lead at DMPartners, in an interview with DAILY POST.

“The players are capitalizing on the high-quality pitches to showcase their football skills, and there have been minimal concerns regarding injuries.”

Morocco has excelled in this tournament, both on and off the field.

Davies further elaborates: “Morocco has recent achievements in its favor regarding the performances of its national teams.

“From being the first African team to reach the semi-finals in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to winning the African Nations Championships in 2020, 2021, and 2025. We must also acknowledge the success of its youth teams in 2023 (U-23 AFCON) and 2025 (U-17 AFCON and U-20 World Cup finalists).

“Morocco is poised to dominate football, making them the most formidable team to face in the ongoing tournament.

“This strength is further enhanced by the fact that Morocco is the current host, and they enjoy the undeniable advantage of home support.

“Therefore, any team facing Morocco in the semi-finals must be prepared to contend with the entire nation, not just the spectators in the stands, as the host country has a significant point to prove on a global scale,” he stated.

The Atlas Lions qualified for the semi-finals on Friday, securing a 2-0 victory over Cameroon.

They will now compete against either Nigeria or Algeria for a spot in the final.

Davies anticipates that the Super Eagles' match against the Desert Foxes will be an exhilarating encounter.

“It’s not always straightforward, to be honest, but I expect a match that will keep viewers and spectators on the edge of their seats, depending on which team they support,” he noted.

“This is essentially a rematch, and while Algeria will be eager to prove that its tournament record isn't a fluke, the Super Eagles will be determined to seek revenge on the Desert Foxes.”
