Rivers: ‘Reveal conditions of his surrender’ – Abati, Rufai on Wike, Fubara reconcilation

Published on June 27, 2025 at 01:48 PM

Journalists, Reuben Abati and Rufai Oseni, have given their opinions regarding the recent reconciliation between the suspended Rivers State Governor Similayi Fubara and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.

and their reunion was made public during a visit to President Bola Tinubu on Thursday night after several months of hostilities between both politicians.

The struggle for control of Rivers political resources led to an intense face-off between Wike and Fubara.

The face-off also led to the factionalization of the Rivers House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule.

In a bid to prevent the crisis from spiraling into a full blown security challenge, Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and appointed a retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator.

Speaking on the development on Arise News’ the Morning Show, on Friday, Abati insisted that Fubara did an unconditional surrender to exhibit his cowardice, while Rufai insisted that the fight between both men was about the state’s resources.

Rufai said: “In the first place, the fight is about the state’s resources, now they have been able to arm-twist Fubara.”;

On his part, Abati added: “What Fubara did was an unconditional surrender to exhibit his cowardice. What are the conditions of that surrender? We’d like to know.”;
