THREE people are seriously hurt after a rickshaw and bus collision.

The pedicab rider and two passengers are critically injured, with one rushed to a major trauma centre for treatment.

The crash happened in the West End in the early hours of this morning.

Two of those hurt were rushed to local hospitals, with pictures from the scene showing the road cordoned off with police tape.

It occurred on the busy Charing Cross Road, which is near Leicester Square and several West End theatres.

A section of the popular road that leads towards Trafalgar Square in the tourist hotspot is closed.

Photos taken just after midnight show a pink glowing pedicab overturned on the street.

Two double-deckers are stopped on either side, by bus stops outside of the flagship Foyles bookshop – which used to be the biggest in Europe.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.07am today (25 August) to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Charing Cross Road and Phoenix Street.

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.

“We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated three people. We took one patient to a major trauma centre and two patients to local hospitals.”

In April, one of the popular ricksaws used by tourists to see the sights of the city burst into flames .

It ignited outside a Harry Potter attraction visited by millions.

Pedicabs can be seen all over central London, offering tourists rides through the city with blasting music and flashing lights.

Transport  for London (TfL) is proposing to regulate ricksaws in the ‘Pedicabs (London) Act 2024’, to make the mode of transport safer.

TfL is currently consulting on the proposed regulations, with a deadline of March 7, 2025.
