WITH his head of luscious blond locks, it’s no wonder Richard Madeley wants to keep hold of them.

The host had a hit earlier this year with ‘s Inside The World’s Mega Prison, and now he’s making more documentaries visiting similarly grim jails.

But it seems he was a little worried he might end up feeling co-erced into submerging himself a little too much in life behind bars.

Channel 5 boss Ben Frow revealed: “I did like the idea that he would be slightly worried about having to have his head shaved.

“And I think there’s something in the contract that he would not have to have his head shaved.”

“My very first job was doing the washing and ironing on Richard & Judy, so to suddenly be the boss of Richard and be able to send him into the world’s mega prison, wow,” said Ben Frow.

“One of the things we talked to Richard about is: ‘what are the other things we can do where the visual is so strong that it sells itself?

“Where you don’t even have to work out what it is or why it is? It sells itself in publicity. It sells itself, through marketing and it makes such an impact.

“That is a really good example of us trying to make something that stands out from the norm. And it did really well for bringing new people to the channel. It was our most successful program in a very long time.”

HERE’S a picture sure to raise a smile – it’s the first look at the new line-up for Last One Laughing.

Prime Video’s Bafta-winning show is welcoming another ten contestants.

The new faces serving up rib-tickling moments will be , , , Michelle De Swarte, Katherine Parkinson, Jon Richardson, Josh Jones and Morgana Robinson.

Host ‘s sidekick Roisin Conaty enters as a contestant while joins as co-presenter.

Richard Ayoade will re-enter the room after narrowly missing out to winner Bob Mortimer in 2025. Ludwig’s was crowned champion of the last series, beating Aussie comic Sam Campbell.

Contestants are locked in a living room for six hours and must make the other comedians laugh without cracking up themselves.

Series three streams next year. If you can’t wait that long, don’t despair – the Halloween special is out on October 23.

STICKY END FOR PRIME?

IT’S about to get dark and disturbing in a desirable part of North London, thanks to horror icon Stephen King.

His terrifying short story, Crouch End, set in the leafty suburb, is getting the telly treatment by Prime Video.

The story, which was first published in 1980, is set to become a six-part limited series, and will be the bestselling author’s first adaptation made in the UK.

The cast is yet to be announced but the story follows film star Doris Freeman, who claims a strange phenomena is behind her husband’s disappearance.

Police inspector Ted Vetter is brought in to investigate – and find out if there is indeed something chilling at play.

King’s scary worlds of Castle Rock and Derry have terrified generations, and Crouch End is expected to do the same.

The original story will be adapted by Paul Tomalin, the writer behind Stephen Graham hit Bodies.

VIRGIN ON THE COMICAL

THE biggest laugh of the Edinburgh TV Festival this week was, as ever, one of the most outrageous.

Last year’s big giggle at the festival was revealing he pooed in the bath he was sharing with his brother.

This time it was commissioner Shaminder Nahal discussing how had prompted conversations about a range of rarely talked about issues, including vaginismus.

The condition, which is an involuntary tightening or spasm of a woman’s pelvic floor muscles, can make sex painful or impossible.

In a poor choice of words, Shaminder told the audience that she hoped broaching the subject of vaginismus on the show had helped women to “open up”.

C4 TECH LOOK AT SOCIALS

CHANNEL 4 takes aim at wealthy tech bros in its new docu-drama exposing the dangers of social media.

Political thriller Billionaires – a working title – will accuse big firms of deliberately engineering their platforms to be addictive and amplifying disinformation.

It is a timely series, as – the company behind and which is owned by – recently reached an $18billion settlement in the US to resolve claims that it harmed children.

It is from the makers of Dirty Business, the docu-drama starring Jason Watkins and David Thewlis, which exposed the widespread illegal dumping of raw sewage by privatised English water companies. Hopefully it will have the same impact.

Ann Droid will return for a second series, the BBC has confirmed. As previously revealed by TV Biz, Diane Morgan will reprise her role as a robot carer who looks after elderly lady Sue (Sue Johnston).

Its first outing received rave reviews and was the Beeb’s second biggest scripted launch of the year after Small Prophets, with 7.6million tuning in.
