Brazil football legend, Ronaldo, has said Neymar and other national team players should get psychological help to deal with the “disproportionate pressure” from the 2022 World Cup.
Neymar admitted after their quarter-final defeat to Croatia on penalties that he was “psychologically destroyed.”
But Ronaldo said: “I would advise having a psychological support to withstand this pressure, which is extremely disproportionate for human beings.
“Neymar will come back with the same passion. But I want to reinforce this need to monitor the mental health of our players.
“It is very important for us to address this issue, especially when it comes to the World Cup, where the whole world is looking at the national team. The world was looking at Neymar.”
Neymar was looking to win his first major trophy with Brazil and had recovered from an ankle injury sustained in their opening group fixture against Serbia to feature in the knockout round of the tournament.
The 30-year-old equalled Pele’s record as the Selecao’s all-time leading scorer with 77 goals.
The Paris Saint-Germain star has said he was unsure he would play again for Brazil.
