Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has decried the meagre number of Local Government Areas in the state.
Governor Diri raised the concerns in a statement on Monday, in Yenegoa, describing the scenario as injustice.
He emphasized the need for national dialogue, saying, “I am very pleased to commend the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu for his interest in local government administration.
“And you all know this from the beginning of my tenure up until today, I have been speaking about true federalism.
“We cannot persist with a scenario where a Bayelsa that produces oil and gas for Nigeria has only 8 LGAs, while others would have 40 and 44 LGAs.
“It is injustice. We need a national dialogue where we can examine most of these things and local governments’ creation to be the function of state governments with the ability to fund the local governments they can create,” he said.
