BREAKING: Protest hits Benue community over abduction of traders in Owukpa

Published on June 02, 2025 at 07:24 AM

Youths of Owukpa in Ogbadigbo LGA of Benue State on Monday stormed the streets to protest the recent abduction of traders in the area.

DAILY POST reports that suspected armed men during the weekend along the Owukpa–Orokam road in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near the Eyiupi community as the victims were traveling from Orba market in Enugu to Owukpa.

The attackers, suspected to be armed herdsmen, reportedly ambushed the vehicle and took away the female passengers, both young and adult.

Since then, the kidnappers have not made contact with the families of the victims to make any demand.

The development triggered the youths to block the Orokam-Owukpa-Okpoga road, demanding action from the government to rescue the victims.

At the moment, those traveling from Enugu and neighboring communities are stranded as the youths insisted nobody should go out or come into the community.
