The Abia State Police Command on Tuesday, stepped up campaign against cultism and other vices, in the state, aimed at discouraging the youths from engaging in criminal activities.
The campaign took place a day after a young man was shot dead at Udi Street by Enugu Road in Umuahia by unknown persons.
The victim, who was reportedly shot in the head by his killers on Monday afternoon, died in front of his father, minutes after his killers had fled.
However, Abia State Police Command on Tuesday took to Okpara square in Umuahia and Area Command Aba, to drum campaign against cultism and other forms of criminality.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO of the Abia Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka said that, βThe walkathon is aimed at strengthening police-public relations and encouraging members of the public to desist from all forms of crime, cultism and other social vices.β
DSP Chinaka said that the Walkathon which was part of the National Police Day 2026, had the Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, CP Danladi and officers in attendance.
In a related development, members of Ibeku Security Network on Tuesday, drove round major streets of Umuahia, calling on Umuahia youths and other residents to shun cultism, gangsterism and other crimes.
The Ibeku Security Network personal who patrolled Umuahia streets in a long convoy, warned that cultism or other acts of terror would not be tolerated in Umuahia.
The local security personnel said they were working with the Police and other security agencies to ensure that peaceful atmosphere in Umuahia is not destroyed by individuals or groups.
