The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a warning to cyber cafés and recruitment agents against extorting money from individuals seeking to join the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

This warning comes in response to reports indicating that some applicants are being charged as much as ₦15,000 or even more.

In a statement released on Monday, the Commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Torty Njoku, refuted claims made by certain agents that the fees collected were being forwarded to the PSC or other governmental entities, labeling such statements as false and misleading.

Njoku indicated that the Commission has received reports of “unscrupulous elements” who take advantage of unsuspecting applicants by soliciting money under the guise of assisting with police recruitment.

He stressed that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is entirely free, emphasizing that applicants are not required to pay any fees at any point in the process.

The PSC urged prospective candidates to complete and submit their applications directly through the official recruitment portal at www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng , without the involvement of third parties.

The Commission further warned that individuals found participating in fraudulent recruitment practices would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

Applicants are encouraged to report any requests for payment to the nearest police station or directly to the PSC via 07054992071 (SMS or WhatsApp only).

Reiterating its commitment to transparency and fairness, the Commission assured Nigerians that it is dedicated to maintaining a merit-based and accessible recruitment process.
