The Gombe State Police Command has successfully recovered 274 sheep, 54 goats, and one donkey that were stolen during various operations conducted throughout the state.
This information was shared in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi.
According to the statement, police officers, in collaboration with vigilantes and local hunters, apprehended four suspects allegedly involved in livestock theft, while other members of the group managed to escape.
The statement further indicated that Adamu Lawali, 17, was apprehended in the Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area with 49 goats, some of which have been recognized by their owners.
Similarly, Abdu Habu, 16, was taken into custody with 115 sheep and one donkey.
In a separate operation, security personnel arrested Amir Sulaiman, 22, at the Gombe cattle market with two cows believed to have been stolen, while efforts continue to capture his accomplice who fled.
The statement also noted that Shuaibu Adamu, 13, was detained with 159 sheep and five goats, with some of the sheep identified as belonging to a resident of Yamaltu-Deba.
The police command stated that all arrested suspects and the recovered animals are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to identify additional accomplices and ensure their prosecution in court.
