The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed an attack on His Royal Majesty, King T.Y. Baridam, the Paramount Ruler of Bangha Community in Khana Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said an investigation into the attack has commenced.
According to the statement, the monarch reported at the police station on Sunday that while returning from Okwale Community, where he attended a meeting, “his vehicle came under attack by unknown gunmen.”
Iringe-Koko explained that the assailants opened fire on the king’s vehicle along Tekar Sogho Road, leading to the East–West Road in Khana LGA.
The gunmen reportedly emerged from nearby bushes, shattering the vehicle’s windscreen and other parts.
The police spokesperson said the monarch sustained a gunshot injury to his thigh during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment.
She added that police patrol teams were immediately deployed to the area to comb the surroundings, as investigations continue to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The State Police Command assured the public that “no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.”
The statement added, “Members of the public are urged to remain calm and provide useful information that can aid security agencies in their investigation.”
