PHIL Collins has revealed his family were ‘coming to say goodbye’ to him as they believed he was set to pass away back in 2024.

The legendary singer – – ended up in hospital after battling with heavy drinking.

And now, he says things were worse than most even knew.

In a new interview with The Times , 75-year-old Phil recalled laying ‘unconscious’ in a Swiss hospital after having drunk enough to be within ‘an inch of death’.

Revealing how his manager had summoned his children to be by his side, Phil said: “Because there were some decisions to be made about ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ kind of thing.

“My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up. People were coming to say goodbye. But I don’t remember them coming, I didn’t have no idea this was going on.

“They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong.”

Phil spent seven months in hospital at the time, and describes himself as “very lucky” to have come out the other side.

“Needless to say, I haven’t had a drink since,” assured Phil.

The musician is known for being the drummer and lead vocalist of rock band Genesis, as well as his succesful solo career.

Phil has five children, including Emily In Paris actress Lily Collins and footballer son Mathew, .

He is also a dad to sons Nichols and Simon, and eldest daughter Joely.
