Pharmacists under the employment of the Ogun State Government have been advised to communicate effectively with their patients to achieve optimum pharmaceutical care and avoid complications.

This advice was given by the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Hospitals Management Board, Olayinka Elemide, at a two-day training organised for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in secondary health facilities across the state, held at the Pharmacy House, Leme, Abeokuta.

Elemide, while speaking on the theme, “Achieving Optimum Pharmaceutical Care and Effective DRF Management,” appreciated pharmacists and pharmacy technicians for helping residents of the state live healthy and productive lives through drug dispensing and patient education on effective drug use, in line with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA mantra.

The resource person, a retired Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Abeokuta, Olusola Amoo, noted during her lecture that pharmaceutical services are evolving, making it imperative for pharmacists to also evolve in their service delivery.

Amoo emphasised the need to monitor the effects of drug therapy on patients and advised participants to work in conjunction with other healthcare professionals.

In her welcome address, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services of the Board, Pharm Opeyemi Kayode, highlighted the essence and importance of the training, urging participants to make good use of the opportunity.

Speaking with journalists, two participants at the training, Rose Olufunso and Adewale Faleti, commended the state governor and the leadership of the Hospitals Management Board for the training opportunity, saying they had learned new aspects of their profession that would help improve their duties and enhance effective service delivery to the people of Ogun State.
