Confirming the death, Peruvian Health Minister Juan Carlos Velasco Guerrero shared that 47 people were hurt – of which three remain critical condition.

The club, based in the Peruvian capital of Lima, offered its condolences and solidarity for the casualties.

Initial reports suggested that a portion of the stadium wall had collapsed, but fire chief Marcos Pajuelo swiftly dismissed the news as false.

“There are no collapsed walls or sections fallen into the pit,” Pajuelo said.
