A PENSIONER tragically mauled to death by two “rottweiler-type” dogs has been named locally as Carol Hall.

Horrified neighbours told how the 78-year-old’s daughter screamed “my mum’s been killed by the dogs” after the attack inside the victim’s home.

Emergency services after reports an elderly woman was injured.

But despite their best efforts, the retired factory worker Carol died at the scene.

Neighbours said Carol lived in a ground floor flat with a man, believed to be a relative, who owned two “huge” .

Residents said the animals had long been “out of control” and would even drag their owner along the street.

Neighbour Sam Wright, 64, described the terrifying moment he realised what had happened.

He said: “She couldn’t have fended him off as she was very weak, they were big dogs.

“I heard the daughter on the front say to someone distinctly ‘my mum’s been killed by the dogs’.

“I’ve seen people from the housing association taking in mops in there today and all the cleaning stuff.

“It’s a bad way to go, isn’t it?

“The owner, they think is her grandson, and the dogs used to drag him up the street. He couldn’t control them.

“I used to see them and they’d be dragging him. He was only a thin bloke.

“They were a similar to a rottweiler, they had those . One was more tan coloured.

“The last time I saw them the guy was coming up the street with a kid from school and they were running about wild loose.

“He couldn’t control them, he was shouting at them.

“I was looking through the window, and I thought ‘I hope they don’t go for the kid’.

“So Carol wouldn’t have stood a chance.

“I’d say she was around 76 to 77 easy. They think she lived there with her grandson.

“Carol lived here with her husband Denis, and he died about six years ago.
“They were out and about all the time.

“But she’d stopped , she had a disability car.

“Years ago she used to work at the lock factory in Bilston.

“I last saw her yesterday afternoon about 3pm. She just had a bag with her.

“It’s just a bit of a shock, what a way to go.”

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, also spoke of the dogs’ frightening behaviour and the grim aftermath.

They said: “I went over once to take her a bereavement card for a chap who died next door.

“The dogs came in so I had to get back out. They were big.

“I knew Carol, she’d been down here 30 years. She kept herself to herself. If you saw her you’d say ‘morning Carol’.

“The window was boarded up because the family said there’s all blood in there.

“The one man said he saw blood all in it because he went to have a look.”

Neighbours described Mrs Hall as a “diamond”’” who had lived in the flat for years.

“Everyone around here knew her so well,’ said one resident.

“She was tiny but had bright red dyed hair, you couldn’t miss her.

“She was so kind-hearted and will be hugely missed by everyone. It’s a tragedy.”

Tributes to Carol, whose husband Dennis died several years ago, have flooded social media.

Friend David Williams posted a photo of Carol on the seafront promenade with her pet dog on .

He wrote: “Sad to hear my good friend Carol Hall has passed.

“Rest peacefully now my friend.”
