Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has announced that community-led peace agreements with bandits in various parts of the state are beginning to show promising signs of enhanced security.
Radda made this statement during his visit to the Batsari and Danmusa Local Government Areas as part of his ongoing tour of the council areas.
He mentioned that several communities previously affected by violence have reached peace agreements that have led to a decrease in incidents of killings and kidnappings.
To emphasize the reported improvement, the governor traveled through the Danburum Forest in Batsari LGA on Friday, a route that was once avoided due to bandit activity. Officials noted that farming activities are gradually resuming in the area.
Radda stated that the state has experienced fewer reports of security-related incidents in recent days. βThe peace deal initiative organized by the communities is producing positive outcomes. In the past few days, I have not received a single incident report from the security forces,β he remarked.
He added that government expenditures on medical support for victims of attacks have significantly decreased. According to him, a state agency that previously spent over N40 million monthly on treatment and related assistance has spent less than N2 million in November.
Support for the families of victims has also diminished, although the governor pointed out that banditry has not been entirely eradicated in the state.
Radda encouraged residents and religious leaders to continue praying for lasting peace.
