Social media critic, VeryDarkman, has acknowledged that he was the one who made the call that resulted in the arrest of activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who is currently detained by the police in Benin, Edo State.

In a Facebook video released on Friday, he confirmed that Gwamnishu was apprehended on Thursday night, stating that he personally contacted law enforcement after receiving reports regarding an incident involving Gwamnishu in Auchi.

He expressed that he was “disappointed” by the information he received and had advised certain individuals not to publicize the issue online. Nevertheless, a video subsequently appeared on social media, leading him to confront those involved.

He mentioned that one of the individuals who shared the video claimed he did so to vindicate himself after being accused of having connections to the case.

VeryDarkman also criticized Gwamnishu’s response video, labeling it as “gaslighting” and an effort to sway public opinion while being aware of the actual circumstances.

He added that the police had instructed those present not to record, yet one individual succeeded in capturing a clip showing Gwamnishu returning money related to the case. He noted that Gwamnishu’s truck is presently at the police station in Edo State.

The influencer rejected claims that he acted out of jealousy, asserting that he intervened solely because he believed it was essential to uphold “the truth.”

He expressed hope that once Gwamnishu is released, he will publicly “speak the truth” about the incident, warning that he may have to disclose more details if that does not occur.

VeryDarkman stated: “So, Harrison Gwamnishu is currently in police custody in Benin, Edo State. He was arrested last night. To be honest, I initiated the call that led to his arrest. I did. And first and foremost, I’m genuinely disappointed by everything, but I will wait for him to be released, and at that time, I expect him to use his own voice to convey the truth about what transpired in Auchi.

“When the incident occurred, I received a call. Upon hearing about it, I was taken aback, so I made further calls, spoke to the police, and asked various questions. When I confirmed the story was true, I felt saddened.

“Then I went back online and noticed that Harrison had posted his own video to explain. After watching it, I found it to be quite gaslighting, especially because I am aware of the truth. It was gaslighting. I was more disappointed in him because he failed to manage the situation appropriately, trying to counter the narrative and simply seek sympathy, emotional manipulation, and emotional blackmail from people. I was disappointed.

“In any case, he’s in police custody. I made that call, and when he is released, I hope he will come forward and share the truth with the public. Regarding the money, whether he took it or not, there is a video showing him returning the money.”
