A former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, representing Zangon Kataf constituency, Mr Mathew Simon Gwazah, has called on all factions in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to resolve their differences and unite for the interest of the party and progress of democracy in Nigeria.
According to him, “All those involved in the crisis causing disaffection in the party leading to massive defection of members to other political parties should in the interest of the party and democracy sheathe their swords for the overall progress of the party and democracy in the country.”
Speaking to DAILY POST in Kaduna, the party chieftain explained that the crisis in the party is being caused by some few leaders that are mostly after selfish interests. He said that the membership of the party at the grassroots all over the country is intact and that members are desiring to ensure the party returns back to power to bring back the lost glory of the country.
According to him, “It is an established fact that during the tenure of PDP from 1999 to 2015, things were affordable to the common man. There was security and most of the challenges Nigerians are going through today are unimaginable.
“Nigerians should in the interest of the country elect PDP candidates in the coming general election for a better society that every Nigerian will be proud of.”
He added further, “Go around the country and see things for yourself. PDP structure is feasible all parts of the country compared to the ruling party, APC, that is not seen in most parts of Nigeria. In a true, credible, free and fair elections, PDP still remains the party to beat in any part of the country. PDP is the most acceptable party, anytime, anywhere.”
Gwazah explained that the future of the party is bright, saying that those defecting to other political parties are doing so for their selfish interests and not for the overall interest of the common man.
According to him, “What is happening in the PDP is a trying moment and l am calling on the leaders of the party to evolve ways and means to resolve their differences in the interest of the party and what each of them stands
to gain.
“As we focus on the interest of the party and the people, we will definitely get a breakthrough because the party structure is still intact and the people are ready to ensure the party returns to power in order to salvage the country.”
The former State House of Assembly member stated that the future of the party is still very bright even in Kaduna State, pointing out that members of the party are intact. He said only a few elective officers who are desperate to be elected have defected to the ruling party.
He explained, “I want to say that in my ward, not a single soul has dumped the party and so it is with other wards particularly in the whole of Southern Kaduna. PDP, with all honesty, has all it takes to win elections . So l am appealing to members to be patient and ensure they come out in their numbers to elect candidates of the party into power in 2027.”
Gwazah said, “I was privileged to be elected as a State House of Assembly member to represent Zangon Kataf constituency. It is up to my people if l am consider to stand for election in any capacity, l am ready to lead my people and bring to bear my vast experience in order to enhance the living standards of my people in all sphere of life.”
