The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has officially commenced its campaign for the August 16 by-election in Edo State, promising to engage every community across the five local government areas of Edo Central Senatorial District.

The by-election will also take place in Ovia Federal Constituency.

At the campaign flag-off held in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North-East Local Government Area, former governorship candidate of the party, Asue Ighodalo, urged residents to rally behind PDP’s candidate, Prince Joe Okojie, insisting that it was Uromi’s turn to produce the next senator.

Ighodalo lamented that since 2023, Edo Central has lacked effective representation in the Senate, stressing the need for quality leadership.

“Esan has always been known for intellectual capacity and strength. We don’t want the world to see our land as a place where education is ignored. The time has come to choose the best person to represent us. Collect their money if they offer it, but vote for what is right,” he declared.

He also appealed to voters to avoid repeating past mistakes, saying the Esan people “know what is best, proper, and good” for their future.

Director-General of the PDP Campaign Council, Hon. Joe Edionwe, warned that Esanland would face setbacks if the opposition emerged victorious.

In his remarks, Prince Okojie expressed confidence in winning the election, pledging to provide strong representation for his constituents.

The rally drew several PDP leaders, including Senator Clifford Ordia, Anthony Okosun, Akhere Ugbesia, Senator Odion Ugbesia, and Hon. Joe Edionwe.
