Members of the Abia State House of Assembly have traveled to the United Kingdom for a “High Level” legislative seminar.

Prior to their departure, the lawmakers passed an “implicit” vote of confidence in Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

They indicated that this vote of confidence was based on the governor's performance across various sectors of the state.

However, the trip to the UK has faced criticism from some members of opposition parties in Abia State.

One vocal opponent is Eric Ikwuagwu, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who labeled the seminar as “merely an excursion, sightseeing, and jamboree.”

Ikwuagwu contended that the members of the Abia Assembly should focus on studying legislative practices in countries that have a presidential system of government, similar to Nigeria, rather than the United Kingdom.

“Is the Abia House of Assembly really on a 'working visit' to the British Parliament and City Council in the United Kingdom?”

“This is nothing but a pure excursion, sightseeing, and jamboree rolled into one.”

“If they truly wish to study any legislature, it should be with states that practice the Presidential System of Government, like Nigeria, and certainly not the UK, which follows a different system,” Ikwuagwu stated.
