Taminu Turaki, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced that his faction has taken control of the party’s national secretariat.

He made this statement while speaking to the press after he, along with Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, forced their way into the PDP National Executive Committee meeting hall on Tuesday.

DAILY POST previously reported that there was unrest at the PDP headquarters in Abuja due to attempts to conduct parallel meetings.

The National Working Committee (NWC), elected in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Saturday, and the faction supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had scheduled meetings for Tuesday.

Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the pro-Wike faction, had arrived at Wadata Plaza with some of his supporters.

Shortly after, members of the Taminu Turaki faction arrived at the party headquarters but were prevented from entering.

Turaki stated, “We will do everything possible to ensure that democracy prevails, even if it means sacrificing our lives.

“If it requires us to call upon the international community for assistance in rescuing our democracy, we will not hesitate to do so. I urge Nigerians to rise up.

“There is a significant threat to democracy in this country. If democracy collapses, it will mark the end of this nation, God forbid. However, we in the PDP are determined, and I want to emphasize that if it comes to laying down our lives for democracy to flourish in Nigeria, we are ready to do so.

“Despite the tear gas that these other factions are using… because this is not standard police tear gas. I am uncertain how they obtained this tear gas and are using it against us, but that will not deter us now or ever.

“I assure you that we have taken control of our office, and we will continue to provide leadership and direction to this party from our national headquarters at Wadata Plaza.”
