The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has condemned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa regarding the death of a young man who was allegedly struck by the governor’s convoy.

The PDP stated that the victim, Good Emiju, was hit by the governor’s convoy in Oka-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government, during Aiyedatiwa’s thank-you tour of the communities in the area.

In criticizing the governor for his silence on this matter, the opposition party, through its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, expressed distress over the swift burial of the deceased.

The PDP is calling for a clear explanation from the state government, with Wande Ajayi emphasizing that the ongoing silence is unacceptable, insensitive, and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and his family.

“According to reliable sources, the victim was initially taken to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where medical staff reportedly could not adequately address the situation due to the poor condition of the facility. He was then transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where he was declared dead. Alarmingly, the young man has already been buried.

“As of now, no official statement has been released to inform the public, clarify the details surrounding the incident, or explain how a citizen lost his life in relation to a government convoy.”

In response, Governor Aiyedatiwa has distanced himself from the incident, asserting that his convoy was not involved in the death.

In a statement from his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor stated: “It is crucial to clarify that the Governor’s convoy was neither responsible for nor involved in any accident on that day, nor on any day since the commencement of the Thank-You Tour across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.”
