He is expected to make his second debut in next Wednesday’s match.
At 34, Gross spent seven seasons at Albion during his first tenure, playing over 230 matches for the Seagulls before transferring for approximately £8.5 million in July 2024.
Reflecting on his time at Brighton after his initial stint, the midfielder remarked: “I had the opportunity to represent Albion in some of the most prestigious stadiums globally, embarking on that first journey into Europe, visiting cities like Marseille, Amsterdam, Athens, and Rome; and wearing the blue and white stripes at Wembley in two FA Cup semi-finals.
“There are countless individuals I would like to thank… They have contributed immensely to what makes this club so special.
“And to the fans, who have been incredible since my arrival, thank you. I’m saddened to be leaving, but I hope to have the chance to say goodbye and express my gratitude in person at a match very soon.”
Gross also expressed his desire to return to the south coast someday, stating: “I’m uncertain about what the future holds for me after my playing career, but the club holds significant meaning for me and my family.
“I know I will return at some point in the future, even if it’s just as a fan to support the club.”
Dortmund currently ranks second in Germany’s league but is nine points behind the leaders.
Brighton has not secured a victory in any competition since November 30, when they defeated a struggling team 2-0 away.
The Seagulls are currently positioned 14th in the league table with 25 points from 19 matches.
