Former Nigerian international, Daniel Akpeyi, has highlighted the areas in which the Super Eagles need to enhance their performance ahead of their Round of 16 match against Mozambique on Monday.
The Super Eagles secured victories in all their group stage matches at the AFCON, finishing at the top of Group C with 9 points.
However, they were unable to maintain a clean sheet, conceding four goals across three matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
Speaking on SuperSport, Akpeyi indicated that Eric Chelle’s squad must focus on their defense to prevent further goals from being conceded.
“Unfortunately, this is an area they need to continually work on, as we can see players making runs into space and receiving the ball,” the former Super Eagles goalkeeper remarked.
“This creates challenges; are the defenders not alert? They need to be aware when a player is making a run into that area.”
“This issue keeps happening repeatedly. I believe Eric Chelle will need to revisit his strategies to ensure the team can stop conceding goals.”
