He is compelled to place his hands behind his head and is escorted away from the entrance while an accomplice restrains hotel guests.
Shortly thereafter, he is shot at close range and collapses onto the pavement as the attackers flee.
Background of Joao Ferreira da Silva
Ferreira da Silva, 46, had been released from the Osvaldo Florentino Leite Penitentiary, commonly known as Ferrugem, just a day prior after presenting a release order issued by the Sinop Court.
He was granted freedom under a semi-open prison regime, which required him to return to jail only at night.
The former bricklayer was serving a 42-year sentence for the violent murder of nine-year-old Bruno Aparecido dos Santos on October 28, 2005.

He lured the child to a construction site, sexually assaulted him, and subsequently killed him, burying his body nearby.
He was apprehended ten days later after attempting to attack another child.
A former resident of Sinop recalled, “I was living in Sinop at that time. I remember he was caught because, a few days later, he tried to assault another boy, who managed to escape.”
“The boy was around 12 years old and was selling ice pops. His neck was scratched all over from the attack.”
During interrogation, he confessed to raping, killing, and burying Bruno but later recanted at trial, claiming he was not involved.
The horrific crime sparked significant outrage at the time.
Approximately 500 people attempted to storm the police station to lynch him, prompting police intervention with pepper spray and gunfire into the air.
Reactions to the Killing
Footage of the killing on Wednesday morning shows one gunman firing multiple shots before the second also opens fire.
Three spent bullet casings were discovered at the scene.
Firefighters confirmed his death, and his body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute for an autopsy.
Bruno’s mother, Josiana da Silva, reacted to the news of the murder, stating, “I ask God for forgiveness for feeling happy.”
“I am not happy for my son, as he is gone without a chance of return, but I am relieved that this man will not harm another child.”
She added, “Justice has been served, but it took too long.”
“I had the courage to confront the man who killed my son during the trial, but I regretted it because I was filled with hatred and wanted to kill him.”
