The only available route West is to Heathrow Airport at the time of writing.

The chaos comes as many arrive back from their Bank Holiday breaks on Easter Monday.

Great Western Railway wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Due to a fault with the signalling system fewer trains are able to run.

“Train services between Paddington and Reading may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“Disruption is expected until 18:00.”

Those who arrive at their destination 15 minutes or more later than planned can claim compensation here.
