The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Electoral Committee for Osun State, Sunday Solarin, has explained why Governor Ademola Adeleke's name was included on the ballot for the governorship primary on Tuesday, despite his recent resignation from the party.

In a conversation with journalists in Osogbo, Solarin noted that Adeleke informed the committee of his departure late on Monday night, after the ballot papers had already been printed and distributed for the election.

“There are two names on the ballot, but one of them (Governor Ademola Adeleke) resigned from the party very late on Monday. By that time, it was impossible to adjust the ballot,” he stated.

He emphasized that, in practical terms, Adebayo Adedamola is recognized as the PDP's legitimate candidate in the primary.

“As delegates cast their votes, they should be aware that Adebayo Adedamola is the only valid candidate, as his opponent has withdrawn from the party,” Solarin added.

Voting had concluded by the time this report was filed, with officials already in the process of collating results in anticipation of the official announcement.
