The Chairman of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, has reiterated that the ongoing strike by judiciary workers in the state will persist until all outstanding promotion matters are resolved and approved.

During an emergency JUSUN Congress held in Osogbo on Thursday, Adeniran explained that the strike was motivated by support from the labor movement and the determination of union members to uphold their rights.

He emphasized that the meeting aimed to remind members of the reasons behind the industrial action and to strengthen their collective resolve in the struggle.

According to him, “The strike has not been called off because it was mandated by the JUSUN National Secretariat. Until we receive different instructions, we will remain on strike.”

Adeniran indicated that the union's concerns extend beyond the upcoming meeting with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), insisting that a formal agreement must be established before any negotiations can occur.

“Our strike goes beyond the JSC meeting. We need to have an agreement before any Judiciary Service Commission meeting can take place,” he stated.

The JUSUN chairman informed members that the national president of the union, Marwan Adamu, has agreed to visit Osun State in solidarity with the workers during the ongoing strike.

He stressed that he cannot negotiate independently without the involvement of union members and the national leadership of JUSUN.

“I cannot negotiate alone unless our members are included and the JUSUN national leadership is fully engaged,” he asserted.

Adeniran assured the workers that the long-awaited promotion letters for JUSUN members would be issued before the strike is suspended.

He also maintained that the previously canceled 2023 promotion exercise must be approved before the industrial action can be concluded.

“The 2023 promotion must be ratified; that is a critical condition for ending this strike,” he stated firmly.

The chairman pledged that the trust and confidence of members in the union leadership would not be compromised, promising continued transparency and unity in their quest for justice.

In his comments, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, reassured judiciary workers that they would not encounter any form of intimidation, emphasizing that the strike was legitimate.

He lamented the current national situation, noting that the country has reached a point where legitimate demands can only be secured through difficult measures such as strikes.

“It is regrettable that we must fight so hard to obtain what is rightfully ours. Our rights must be granted to us, and as far as the NLC is concerned, we are in this together,” Arapasopo declared.

He appealed to the Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, to implement the state government’s approved promotions for JUSUN members for 2024 and 2025.

He pointed out that their colleagues in other states have already been promoted while Osun workers are still waiting.

Arapasopo urged Justice Adepele Ojo to address the matter swiftly to restore industrial harmony within the state’s judiciary.
