Galatasaray captain Mauro Icardi has said the arrival of Victor Osimhen has boosted the popularity of the Turkish Super Lig, DAILY POST reports.

Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan last summer after failing to secure a move away from Serie A club, Napoli.

The Nigeria international made a huge impact helping the Yellow and Reds win a domestic double.

Galatasaray fought off the challenge of Saudi club, Al Hilal to sign the striker on a permanent transfer this summer.

Okan Buruk’s side have also added highly-rated Germany international, Leroy Sane, to their squad.

Icardi said it was unthinkable for players like Osimhen and Sane to play in the Turkish top-flight in the past.

“Turkish football? Players like Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane have arrived, and it was unthinkable before,” he was quoted by the club’s official website.

“There are many players who want to come to Turkey, and it’s great pride and honour for me to have contributed to this.”
