St Andrew’s Church in the village of Greensted is thought to be the oldest wooden church in the world.

According to the church’s website, the building is made up of 51 timber planks which date back to 1060.

However, excavations have suggested there were earlier wooden structures on the site that date back to the 6th century.

The church has been renovated several times over the years including during the Tudor and Victorian eras.

There has been work done in the more recent decades too which is why it’s still able to be in use today.

St Andrew’s Church still holds a Sunday service once a week and has a congregation of around 20.

The oldest grave is opposite to the church entrance and is that of a 12th century Crusader, thought to be an archer.

The quickest way from the capital is on the London Underground Central Line to Epping.

From there it’s a 15 minute drive to the village.
