The Ogun State Government, through the Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), has shut down four companies for allegedly violating state environmental regulations.
The affected companies are Aristocrate Industries Limited, Plenco Industries Limited, Nanfang Industrial Limited, and Xinphang Plastic Limited, all located in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
Farouk Akintunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on OGEPA, made this announcement on Tuesday during an interview with journalists in his office in Abeokuta.
Akintunde revealed that Nanfang Industrial Limited and Plenco Industries Limited were closed for failing to install an effluent treatment plant in their factories, which led to the discharge of untreated water into the environment.
He noted that Xinphang Plastic Limited, which specializes in recycling plastics, and Aristocrate Industries Limited, involved in the production of flexible packaging, did not obtain the necessary government approvals required for their operations and denied government officials access to their facilities, respectively.
The OGEPA Director expressed concern over the non-compliance of these facilities, warning that this trend poses a serious risk to public health and the environment.
