Ogun Assembly Approves New Bill for Scavengers and Waste Dealers

The Ogun State House of Assembly has enacted legislation to oversee the activities of scavengers and waste dealers in the state, aiming to enhance public order, ensure environmental safety, and promote peaceful coexistence, along with related matters.

The bill, titled ‘The Scavengers and Waste Dealers Law, 2025’, was passed following the presentation of the report by the House Committee on Environment, led by its Chairman, Samsideen Lawal.

Lawal subsequently proposed its adoption, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, and received unanimous support from all lawmakers through a voice vote during the plenary session chaired by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide on Tuesday.

The bill was then read and adopted clause by clause by the Committee of the Whole House. Following this, the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sherrif, moved the motion for the third reading, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, and was supported by the entire House.

The Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, then presented the bill for the third time to the state lawmakers.

Speaker Oludaisi Elemide subsequently instructed that a clean copy of the bill be sent to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his approval.
