Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, the Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has passed away.
The Ede-born History professor reportedly died following a brief illness.
The news of his passing was shared on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter) by Olalekan Badmus, the Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Digital Media.
Badmus described the loss as both shocking and painful for the academic and political communities in Osun.
In his post, Badmus expressed, “Rest in power, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso. An esteemed son of Ede, Osun State, and Nigeria. What a tragic loss!”
Prof. Oyeweso was well-regarded for his contributions to education and his active participation in state politics, where he held significant influence within the APC. His academic achievements and public involvement earned him widespread respect throughout Osun and beyond.
