Former Kaduna State Governor and prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has urged Northern governors to embrace technology and foster digitalization in the region.
He also encouraged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to implement technology for the upcoming 2027 elections.
El-Rufai expressed these thoughts at the launch of "Fasahar Zamani," a 12-part Hausa-language digital technology series with English subtitles, produced by Blue Sapphire Hub and funded by UK Development International. The series is designed to promote awareness about the importance of technology adoption throughout northern Nigeria.
He pointed out that Northern Nigeria is falling behind in technological advancements and called on state governments to assist digital entrepreneurs with training and initial funding.
“Northern Nigeria has yet to fully embrace the realities of the tech era. State governments should identify digital and tech entrepreneurs within their regions and provide support to help them develop their ideas, create jobs, and position Nigeria on the global technology map,” El-Rufai stated.
Idongesit Udoh, the Country Lead for the UK Global Digital Access Programme, emphasized that the initiative aims to include underserved communities, particularly women and individuals with disabilities, in Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
Maryam Lawan, founder of Blue Sapphire Hub, mentioned that the series showcases practical uses of technology, ranging from agricultural innovations to healthcare solutions, and encourages northern communities to leverage digital skills for learning and economic growth.
