The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Northern Nigeria has expressed profound sadness over the passing of the esteemed Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

CAN characterized his death as a significant spiritual and moral loss to the nation.

Family sources reported that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the age of 98.

In a condolence message released in Kaduna on Thursday, the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, stated that the late scholar was among the few clerics in the country whose teachings consistently fostered peace, humility, and mutual respect across religious boundaries.

Hayab remarked that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s extensive service, particularly his dedication to Qur’anic education and moral discipline, shaped generations of students and significantly contributed to social harmony in Northern Nigeria.

He noted that Northern CAN acknowledged the late scholar as a man who utilized his influence to promote peaceful coexistence and to discourage violence, even during times of tension in the region.

According to CAN, the passing of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi serves as a reminder for Nigerians to uphold the values he embodied, particularly during a time when the nation faces religious divisions, political strife, and increasing insecurity.

He urged both Muslim and Christian communities to take this moment as an opportunity to enhance interfaith dialogue and rebuild trust among various groups.

Northern CAN extended its condolences to the scholar’s family, the Tijjaniyya movement, the Bauchi Emirate, and the Muslim Ummah across the country, praying for God's comfort for all who are mourning and for the late cleric to find eternal peace.

Hayab added that Northern CAN would continue to support sincere efforts aimed at fostering unity and ensuring that followers of both faiths contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s stability and progress.

He emphasized that the most appropriate tribute to the late scholar is for Nigerians to reaffirm their commitment to peace, tolerance, and national cohesion.
