THE killers of 24-year-old Sydney Loofe remain behind bars nearly nine years after she vanished following a Tinder date.
Aubrey Trail and Bailey Boswell dumped Sydney’s remains in roadside ditches in Nebraska after her body was cut into 14 pieces.
The grisly murder is the focus of a new three-part documentary series, Swipe Right on the Devil.

What happened to Sydney Loofe?
worked at a hardware store in Lincoln and met Bailey Boswell on Tinder, where Boswell used the name “Audrey”.
The women went on their first date on November 14, 2017, and arranged to meet again the following evening.
On November 15, Boswell and her boyfriend Aubrey Trail bought a hacksaw and other supplies at Home Depot, then went to the Menards where Sydney worked.
Security footage showed Trail walking past Sydney, turning twice to look back at her and calling Boswell, who was waiting in the car park.
He then bought chemical drain cleaner and a long cord from the store.
Later that day, Sydney posted a .
Boswell took Sydney to their apartment in Wilber that night, and her phone last connected to a cell tower at 8.32pm.
When she failed to turn up for work the next morning, someone reported her missing.
Investigators found her dismembered remains in bags along rural Nebraska roads on December 4 and 5.
During the post-mortem, a pathologist determined that strangulation caused her death.
Witnesses later testified that and fantasies of torturing and killing women.
Trail initially claimed Sydney died accidentally during a consensual sexual encounter, but prosecutors maintained her murder was planned.
Where is Aubrey Trail now?
Trail was found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in 2019.
During his trial, he shouted, “Bailey is innocent, and I curse you all,” before slashing his own throat with a concealed razor blade.
He survived, and the Nebraska Supreme Court later rejected his argument that the incident had deprived him of a fair trial.
A three-judge panel sentenced him to death on June 9, 2021.
During sentencing, Trail addressed Sydney’s family, saying: “I won’t say I’m sorry, as that would be an insult to you after what I’ve put you through.
“And I won’t ask for forgiveness, as I don’t believe there is such a thing.”
He added: “I have done some terrible things in my life, but this is the only thing I have ever done about which I feel real regret.”
Trail also told the court: “I couldn’t care less what you do here to me today.”
He remains on death row at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution in Nebraska.
In August 2023, he asked officials to schedule his execution.
The state’s Supreme Court upheld the dismissal of a post-conviction challenge in May 2025, and the US Supreme Court declined to hear his case on April 20, 2026.
Where is Bailey Boswell now?
Boswell was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy and improper disposal of human remains in October 2020.
She also , but two of the three sentencing judges voted for execution, while the third disagreed.
Nebraska law requires a unanimous decision to impose the death penalty.
Instead, she received life imprisonment in November 2021, plus another 52 years for her other convictions.
Boswell is serving her sentence at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York.
The Nebraska Supreme Court upheld her convictions and sentences in May 2024, rejecting objections to evidence presented at trial.
But a separate post-conviction appeal remains pending, with arguments listed before the same court on November 3, 2026.

Directed by Brian Biegel, the docuseries revisits the investigation and features interviews with authorities and women who knew the couple.
It explores allegations about witchcraft, manipulation and the pair’s relationships with other young women.
