The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) asserts that the dissolution of the Kano State executives at all levels is final and cannot be overturned by a court ruling.

This announcement was made in a statement from the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, in Abuja on Thursday.

Johnson's comments were in response to media reports indicating that a High Court in Kano State had annulled the dissolution of the party’s executive committees at the state, local government, and ward levels, in accordance with the NNPP Constitution.

He stated that the party's National Working Committee (NWC) views the alleged reversal of its internal decisions by the court as “a mere street rumor,” as they have not received any official court documents.

While media outlets reported that the court, through an ex-parte order by Justice Nasiru Saminu on Tuesday, supposedly granted a temporary injunction to this effect, the party's leadership has yet to be presented with any court documentation.

Johnson mentioned that if the court order were confirmed, such an action would clearly contradict legal procedures and established legal precedents.

He emphasized that it would be a misinterpretation for a judge to grant such an extensive interim injunction against a completed action by the NWC of the party.

“We still consider the entire situation to be a mere rumor. However, if this is validated, we will pursue legal action to ensure that the alleged unlawful injunction does not prevail.

“Undoubtedly, it cannot be upheld because it constitutes an illegality and a blatant misuse of court processes, as the court lacks the authority to overturn a party's decision, which is an internal matter.

“Consequently, the dissolution of the Kano State executives of the party at all levels remains in effect,” he stated.

Johnson explained that the Supreme Court has consistently ruled in various cases that political party matters are non-justiciable, as they pertain to the internal affairs of political parties.

“Therefore, the purported reversal by a Kano State High Court of the NWC's decision of the NNPP cannot be treated as an exception.

“If the reported injunction of this nature is confirmed as true, it can only be characterized as an act of legal impropriety,” he remarked.

Johnson added that in similar situations, the NNPP would be compelled to take all necessary actions to ensure that the judicial officers involved are appropriately sanctioned by the National Judicial Council.
